Comment:

I have such a problem: when I try to open one specific *.xls file Excel opens but the file does not. The file also refuses to open as I use File:Open on the Excel Menu bar. There is no error message, it says that the Excel is ready but the file does not open in the window. I'm using Excel 2003. Other files work in the usual manner. I tried disabling macros but it didn't help.

It's very possible that the file is corrupt.

You could try a couple of things...

1 - Right click the file, choose Open with and try to open it in IE. If it opens, save it as an Excel file but with a different name.

2 - Download a free copy of OpenOffice from openoffice.org and see if you can open it with Calc, the OpenOffice version of Excel.
