Could anyone possibly tell me how can I stop Excel from automatically changing "5 - 9" into date format of "05-Sep" when entered into a cell?

Put an apostrophe in front of it to tell Excel that it should remain as text:

'5 - 9

Dear DerbyDad

Thank-you so much. It works a treat! You have no idea how much hair I have pulled out trying to sort this problem.
Incidentally, are you in Derby, UK? I am an ex-pat living in Dorset, if you are.
Very many thanks, once again. I really am most grateful to you.

re: are you in Derby, UK

No. The Derby in DerbyDad03 has nothing to do with where I live.
