excel column problem

in excel2000 my colume headings have numbers as well as my row headings. My cell refs are coming out as 1,1 etc instead of a1
Does anyone know how to revert back to letters for the columes and numbers for the rows.

Not sure if this will do it but go to Excel Tools, Options, General tab and remove the check next to R1C1 Reference style. Click Ok.
(I am on Excel 97)
