I am importing the data from one workbook (book1) to another (book2) in excel 2003 using a formula =[Book1.xls]Sheet1!$A$1 into cell B1 of book2

which is bring in the data from the book1.xls to book2.xls workbook.

But Data in Book1 is large enough upto 20000 rows.

When I am trying to Import Range A1:A20000. usng the above formula

its reporting the error "Can not complete the task with available resources. Choose less data or close some application"what is the solution of it?

Thanks in advance

It would be impossible for us to duplicate your exact environment in an attempt to replicate the error. I just linked over 30,000 cells from 2 different workbooks and had no problem bringing in the data. That said, I have a question:

You said that you are trying to "

Import Range A1:A20000 usng the above formula".The problem I see is that the formula will only import the data from A1 since you have the reference locked with the $.

=[Book1.xls]Sheet1!$A$1

If you drag this down, it's just going to repeat the same formula over and over again.

Are you sure that that is the formula you are using?

oh sorry I forgot to remove the $ sign in the formula

formula I am using is =[Book1.xls]Sheet1!A1Its giving the error many times when I am trying to open or close a workbook.

suppose I am imporng a sheet into other workbook. and enable autorefresh when open file. It opens the file to refresh the imported data anfd when I try to close that workbook Its showing the message "Cann't complete the task with available resources".

Can you try the task on another machine to see if it is a workbook related error or a hardware issue? Have you tried closing other applications as directed by the message?

Have considered using a macro to bring the data in a smaller chunks?
