When I try to format a cell(s)I can open Format but when I click on cells it won't open. I get no error message. I have had other strange things happen in excel - date format disappears and the currency format disappears. Any ideas why?

When that happens to me it is usually because I am in the middle of a formula or I have not selected the targeted cell or cells to format.

P.S. Is this spreasheet one that you have created or someone else that may also have it protected? If you create a new spreadsheet do you have the same problems?

Maybe your cells are locked. Select from the menu Tools/Protection. If the option Unprotect Sheet is displayed, that might be the problem.
