I'm trying to add a new database query to an Excel spreadsheet. I select 'MS Access Database*' under 'Choose Data Source' and I get the select database window as expected, but the file type drop down only has the option for .mdb, the problem is I'm trying to select an .accdb file type (Access 2007). If I select 'all files' on the drop down I can select the .accdb file, but it gives me a password prompt even though there is no password and then kicks me back to the 'Select Database' window. I already converted the .accdb into an .mdb and it did work. This is for an advanced MS Excel class though and I will lose points for linking to an .mdb. I tried to get help, but I don't think my instructor knows what to do either, not that I blame her, it is a weird problem. I already installed all updates available and run the detect and repair utility, neither which helped. Thanks in advance for any ideas anyone might have.

I don't do Database queries so I don't know if this will help. I stole it without permission from:

"However, keep in mind that it is not possible to link to tables housed in the new ACCDB file format from within a MDB file."
Do you know if your troubles are specific to your machine or if it's a wide spread issue?
If it's a widespread issue, how could the teacher possibly dock you for not being able to do something that can't be done?
If it's specific to your machine, then I guess you'll have to bite the bullet and find another machine running 2007 and do your work there.
