When I have a spreadsheet open in Excel, two things are happening simultaneously:
- If I click on the maximize/minimize button (at the top right-hand corner of the window), the icon never changes from the maximize icon
- When I do click on the maximize/minimize button, the window does not resize to the full application screen, rather, it just resizes to a generally larger window and restores to smaller window.
I ran the Office Repair but nothing has changed. Is there any fix I can do before I try reinstalling it?

I am not so sure of the problem as explained.
When I have a spreadsheet open in Excel at the top right hand corner I see two sets of buttons. One for the application and below that is the buttons for the spreadsheet.
When I first open the spreadsheet both sets of buttons have available, in order from left to right, Minimize, Restore and Close ("Close window" for the spreadsheet or lower set of buttons).
If I click on the Restore button for the Application window it resizes to about a 600x480 window versus my normal screen resolution size of 800x600 and the Restore button changes to now say Maximize when I wave over it with the mouse.
The icon image was two overlapping windows when it said Restore and one window now that it says Maximize.
Now back to your problem...When the Application window is in the Restored state you are able to resize the window by manipulating the edges of it to whatever size you want. I am theorizing that your restored window was previously resized to match the Maximized window size.
My Spreadsheet screen resizes similarly to the Application window.
The best I can offer is to give that a try to see if it helps resolve the issue.
Does this offer any insight to the problem and what screen resolution are you using if not.

Bryan

Hi Bryan.
Yes, I'm following you - that's how the spreadsheet should normally function.
My problem is with the maximize/restore button (second button for the spreadsheet). Firstly: The button doesn't change to the restore icon with "two overlapping windows" - it remains as the icon with the one single window regardless of how many times I click it.
Now secondly: when you normally maximize the window for a spreadsheet, it "integrates" with the Excel application window and encompasses the toolbars at the top. In my case, if I click the button to try to maximize it, it does not "integrate" with the application, rather, it is still floating like a "restored state" window where you can resize it by dragging the edges. As I understand all of MS Office to be, you should not be able to drag and resize the window once it's maximized because it takes on the same "frame" as the application window until you decide to restore.
I apologize for the ambiguity of this problem and the lack of visuals (which would likely clarify the explanation of the problem itself), but I'm starting to think I'll just re-install and HOPE it'll resolve the issue... otherwise, this end user is getting me caught up in something bigger than necessary.

When you say "encompasses" do you mean that it covers the menu and toolbars?
Images must be set to On to view the following:
Mine in the Maximized state:
and in the Restored state:
Try checking within the View menu to see if 'Normal' view is selected and also check in 'Custom View' to make sure that it is not set to use a custom view.
Bryan
