Equation Editor Problem

I am working a lot with Office 2000, Word Equation program on two PC's: Win98SE and WIn2000. The same problem occurs on both: when typing the symbols/equations, the grey color lines and boxes appear around math symbols. They are visible only on the screen, no problems with the printed file, but they make me crazy. Does anybody have the same problem? Thanks

Does going to View/Redraw (when you have an equation open) clear the gray lines for you? If not, look at Tools/Option (when you don't have an equation open) to see what formatting marks are shown.

What seems to help is to change the option in Tools/Options/Show/Field Shading from "Always" to "When selected". The interesting fact is that these grey lines and boxes appear in somewhat random manner, not always appear and not always look the same (sometimes the same equation appears with the line above and sometimes with the box, etc). I asked many people but nobody had the same problem. A lot of thanks for the help.
