Solved Download ALL email messages from an email account

Specs: Windows XP Pro, 1.6
Hi,

I use Windows Live Mail and was wondering if there was a way to download ALL messages from all email accounts.

The different server email accounts used are Hotmail, Gmail, and GMX and I would like to download all messages stored on these servers and not just the new emails sent and received after installing WLM.

Anybody know how to accomplish this?

doh,

For some reason in Gmail I had both POP and IMAP enabled. I don't know if that was a contributing factor but after changing it and selecting "Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)" Windows Live Mail is now downloading all messages. Why I never changed this before I have no idea, but at last the email is working as it should.

You could configure Hotmail and Gmail as POP, but you should take into account that all messages on the server will be downloaded to your pc and will be deleted from the server. Meaning, you won't be able to restore them if something happens to your PC and you won't be able to view those messages on other devices other than the one you configured for POP.

IMAP is a good alternative where you can access your messages on several devices and keep them in sync.

As for GMX, I'm afraid I'm not familiar with it, but I'm sure it provides support for POP and/or IMAP

For the settings themselves, visit the support pages of each provider.

All my accounts are configures as a POP account when using Windows Live Mail.

In the account settings at Gmail it is selected to be used as a POP type account.

Having ALL messages downloaded to one computer seems a bit risky, is there any other alternative to have all messages downloaded from a Gmail or Hotmail account without erasing them from the server?

for google, in settings you can select archive Google's copy

settings>Forwarding and POP/IMAP>When messages are accessed with POP>Archive Gmail's copy.

This will save downloaded messages online as well. It would make sense for the other two providers to offer something like this
