Solved Does a cell contain a specific Number

April 25, 2014 at 01:51:26
Specs: Windows 7
I have a workbook with two spread sheets in, the first sheet (Sheet 1) has a list of job numbers in column L and £amounts in column N. I want column 0 to tell me if the job number in column L is listed on the second sheet anywhere - is this possible?

Ideally I would like a message to come up to say wither PAY or DO NOT PAY.

Thanks

Where on the second sheet might the job number be found?

You used the word "anywhere". Do you literally mean anywhere in the millions of cells on the sheet?

Can you narrow that down a bit?

Hi

Thanks for replying!

The Job Number would be in column A usually there are normally around 1000 rows

Thanks

Look at the VLOOKUP function. I don't have Excel available right now, but it sounds like VLOOKUP wrapped in a IF(ISNA(...)) function should work.

If you can't figure it out, let me know. I'll have Excel available in a couple of hours.
