document failed to print

Hewlett-packard Photosmart c4480 all-in-...
June 2, 2010 at 15:45:39
Specs: Windows XP
I was in the middle of a project, printing in increments of 25 copies. I was printing on card stock. I got an error message of "Out of Paper" as I didn't have the paper pushed all of the way in. I corrected the problem but have not been able to print since. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer (with the manufacturer's disk) but it won't even print the test page. It says "Document failed to print". When I check the printer box it says "error"

I used all the standbys of rebooting and unplugging and plugging.

I don't know what else to do. These are wedding bulletins that need to be cut after printed so I am on a time limit. PLEASE.. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

You didn't say what app you were using, but I don't know if that matters.

When you say you looked at the "printer box", I assume you mean the dialog box that tells you what documents are printing.

You should be able to highlight the name of the document, Click on the Document menu above it and choose Cancel.

Hopefully that will clear the Print Queue and you'll be able to print. It may take a few seconds to clear the queue, so don't panic.

I hope that helps.

Yea...for what?

We're always curious...what helped? The HP diags or clearing the print queue?

(Having the solution posted in the thread may help someone else in the future.)

It was the hp diagnostic testing. They diagnosed it, I click "fix" and it was fixed.

Somehow I lost the printer port. There was none listed. Which was weird since it happened in the middle of a print job. Anyway, thanks so much for the help.
