We are facing this strange problem with a few users that their "DELETE" key stops working after some time in outlook and they cannot delete any message from the inbox. However, right click ->delete still works.

Common things so far for all users:
- It happens only after certain period of inactivity
- All these users have PST files larger than 500 MB connected.
- At this time, the user cannot even use the delete key Explorer to delete any files.
- At this time, the user cannot even use Ctrl+C and Ctrl +V key in Explorer to copy/paste any files.
- Memory/ CPU no issues - facing this problem on 2.4 GHz Dell GX 260 and also on a PIII 900 MHz Dell GX110.
- A reboot solves this problem but re-appears after some time
- NOT related to Japanese MUI/ Locale - as its happening for user's without these settings also.

Anybody faced similar problem elsewhere ? Any suggestions / solutions ?

I am too facing the same problem on two machines Dell Optiplex 260 3.06GHz 512k. When a user try’s to close a msg within Outlook by pressing the Esc key or Deletes a message He cannot carry out his requests using the Keyboard, but he can using this mouse. It's just the Keyboard commands, which freeze. This does not effect Word / Excel

I have opened a call to Dell but will do the same with Microsoft and will see what happens...

We have this problem on several machines at my work.
This is not a problem with office XP or outlook XP.
I had a dell Optiplex 260 with office XP on it. Removed Office XP completely and then installed Office 2000 and the same problem occurs. I have tried everything to attempt to resolve this - including rebuilding the machine (software) and this didnt resolve it either.

The problem occurs when your pc has locked with the screensaver on - you then come back and press CTRL+ALT+DEL and then you find that your delete key has broken (also find that delete and backspace dont work properly in powerpoint along with other problems).

One way round about this problem, but not to resolve it, is that when you come back and see your screensaver on, move your mouse first and then press CTRL+ALT+DEL. This will not break your delete key.

This problem has occured on various types of Dell machines with Windows XP - Dell Optiplex 260,150, Dell Latitude C640 etc

I will keep you up to date if i find a solution

OK Listen up people!

When you are unlocking your machine when the screensaver is on DO NOT use the delete key (marked del) on the number pad - this is causing the problem. If you use the delete key beside End and below Insert - this will work forever more.

This is looking like a compatability issue betwwen windows XP and Dell machines.

Cant explain why this is happening as it worked fine in Windows 2000 but at least youse dont have to reboot ten times a day.
