Hi Tecky types.
Im wanting to get some MS certifications (MCDST).I want to move into IT at the company i work for,Anyway I Just started looking into it and have just realised i know bugga all about Outlook,I havent used it since 1998 I think, all the mail I ever use is web based, I like it that way coz I get to choose what I open before it gets down loaded to my computer (tell me if im wrong, but like i said i know not mutch about outlook).
Ok enough about that.I just set up outlook this afternoon real quik b4 i came to work and have only set it up to check my hotmail account so far but when i open a email it wont let me open any attachments, everythink that has a attacchment there is a message saying the attachment is suspicious or somethink to that effect,I know the attachments are ok because ive opened them before and have not had any viruses or bugs or spy ware from them yet..i scan quite regularly and have AV on.ok so thats the first question.
Second of all can any one tell me a site i can look at to learn all about outlook and mail and things like
ftp
http
pop3 (mail server)
smtp (mail server)
nntp (news server)
TCP/IP
DNS
because all this is a bit beyond me at the moment.im trying to catch up fast.i realise this will all be taught when i do the MS training but i just want to get my head around it a bit before i start.
Any advice always greatly appreciated, thanks in advance guys and gurls.

Hi, in OE go to Tools > Options > Security Tab and uncheck the box that says ' Do not allow attachments that may contain a virus' as far as question 2 goes these are all different types of communication protocol and any site related to networking should do however heres the one at my university.

If this is Outlook Express, follow M's advice. If it's indeed Outlook, there is built in Security to prevent certain file types from being opened and/or saved in Outlook. There are three groups.

Level 1 (unsafe) File types cannot be opened or saved. Examples of these are exe, com, bat, jse, and others.

Level 2 File types can be saved to the HDD and then opened afterwards. Examples of these are doc, zip, xls, and others. The capability is there to add file extensions to this Level 2 list.

Other attachments - file types that are not listed either in the Level 1 or Level 2 lists. You will be prompted to either open those files or save them.

Outlook is not a simple program. I'd recommend buying yourself a book and working with Outlook to familiarize yourself.

If you have any specific questions, please feel free to email me.
