I realize that CorelDraw is not an MS Office product, but this seems to be the closest forum, although I'll probably post this under the XP forum also.

I have a friend who runs a printing business. He runs CorelDraw (currently version 10 I believe) on a P4 2.6ghz WinXP Pro machine with 512M ram.

He does a lot of work in CorelDraw. I have two questions for those with experience with CorelDraw. He still has problems with Coreldraw slowing down when he works with large drawings and occassionally crashing.

1 - do you think that more memory would help? He currently uses PC2700, I don't think the motherboard will support newer types.

2 - would a better graphics card help. I don't know what graphic card he currently has, but am very sure that it's a very generic card. What type of features should we look for in a graphics card?

Thanks
Don

Hi Don.

Your friend could try a video card with at least 128MB of memory. The more memory a video card has, the less stress is placed on the computer's cpu.

Also make sure there is plenty of free hard drive space and the hard drive is defragmented.

Many programs use blank space on the hard drive for temporary storage of a file you are working on. If the hard drive doesn't have enough free space or the files on it are fragmented, there will be a slow down. Windows has a defragment utility built in that he can run every so often to defrag the drive.

The following links are from Corel's site. The first link has much info that may help.

If he or she is only doing vector images than the resources needed are a lot less than if bitmaps are being used - you can get away with using very low specs if you are only doing vectors
