Solved Copy and paste bank statement

Specs: Windows 7
Hi i have just copied and pasted a years worth of bank statements into an excel spreadsheet but am unable to total any of the figures as they are not recognised as an excel format. I have tried all the various formatting options but to no avail. the only thing that works is to insert a new column and reimput all the figures!!! Your help would be greatly appreciated

1 - Select an empty cell
2 - Do a Ctrl-c to Copy
3 - Select the numbers you need to Sum
4 - Right-click...Paste Special...Add

This should convert the text strings to numbers.

Since your having problems with your imported numbers, I would not be surprised if your Dates are also not Real Date, but Text that looks like Dates.

A quick way to determine if you have Real Dates is to format the cell as Number.
If it is a Real Date it will display as a 5 digit number.
