Converting hh:mm time format to min

March 2, 2009 at 15:13:45
Specs: Windows 2000
I'm attempting to analyze data from 2 brands of data recorders. One recorder collects data in hours and minutes (for example, 14:30), the other records times as minutes into the day (using the same example 14:30, time is stored as 870). Is there a simple way (i.e. one step) to convert the hh:mm format into minutes into the day with Excel? (Is there a name for the minutes-into-the-day time stamp format?) I'm not very savvy with Excel. Thanks!

No Excel format for "hours into a day" that I know of.

With your time (14:30) in A1, this formula will return 870:

Note: The cell with the formula must be formatted as Number.
