combining data in different excel sheets

Specs: Windows XP
I have individual excel worksheets with sales figures for multiple years (i.e. one sheet for each year). The sheets are arranged by item & quantity sold. I want to combine the sheets to a single sheet with each item having the corresponding yearly sales in a row so they can be compared and totaled. Also the items and sale quantities may or may not occur each year.

I think we need a little more detail related to how the sheets are laid out, both the individual sheets and the summary sheet.
