In Word 97, how do u centre a picture on the document? I use Word 2000 myself and was showing a friend how to lay out pics in her W97 but found that (a) when the pic was selected the alignment icons in the toolbar were greyed out, so u couldn't do it that way, and (b) in the Format Picture dialogue box, there is no facility to adjust vertical or horizontal alignment. Is this the way it was in 97, or was I missing something? Thanks CW

Try hitting the Center button on the Formatting toolbar prior to inserting the Picture.
It worked for me but it wasn't greyed out after inserting the picture either. I could then click on the picture and hit the Center button.
Is the image too large to center it?

Thanks for the suggestion, Bryan, I'll get her to try that. No, the pic was relatively small, a good couple of inches to left and right of it within the page margins, once manually centered. Tks again CW
