hi
i hav a small question. i am using office 2000 proffessional. i got an excel file that i want to protect partially. because there are cells which should be edited by somebody else so i want to keep them unprotected but protect the rest of the document. is it possible? i know that i can either protect the whole document or one sheet from it but i don't know if it is possible to protect only certian cells. i tried it with right clicking on selected cells and chage the protection on them, but it also requires the protection of the sheet at least. the language is german so i can not translate the menus exactly. can anbody help me? thanks

Select the cells that you want others to be able to edit.
Click on Format...Cells...Protection tab.
Uncheck the Locked box
Click on Tools...Protection...Protect Sheet
Choose your options and click OK.
By default, all cells are Locked, but this has no effect until you Protect the sheet. If you simply Protect the sheet, all cells will be locked by default. However, you have the option to Unlock specific cells before Protecting the sheet so that they can be edited.
