I received a scanned document (apparently scanned from an A4 size paper). I inserted into Words doc. file. But it cannot be printed. When I click the print icon, an error message says "There is insufficient memory or disk space. Words cannot display the requested font". The size of the scanned file is 544KB. Would anyone please help.

Hi Henryhauw.

Do a search of your hard drive and find the file -

normal.dot

Rename it to OldNormal.dot. Word will create a new one upon restarting.

Then insert your scanned file into a new page and try printing.

Take care,

Linda

Thank you Linda. I have tried. I renamed the file to OldNormal and a new Normal file was created. I inseted the scanned file into a new page. The same error message appears again. As it happened before, when I clicked the OK button, another error message appears. It says:"There was an error writting to LPT1: for the printer(hp deskjet 948C series): There was a problem printing to the printer due to an unknown system error. Restart Windows, and then try printing again". I have e-mailed the scanned file to 2 other computers connecting to different printers. All have them same error message. It does not seem to be printer problem. Is the file too big (544 KB) to be printed? It's only one page scanned document inserted into a Words document page.

Thanks. The MS-Support website provides 4 methods. The 1st one 'Update Printer' but it appears that my printer does not need to update. The 2nd 'Link to File' is what I had done but can't print as already mentioned. The 3rd one 'Paste as Picture' but when it reached the last stage 'Paste Special', there is no "as: Picture" but only "as: Package Object". When I click ok, only the selected graphic icon appeared on the Words page. The 4th one 'Rescan the Picture' but I can't do it since mine is an e-mail attachment. A friend of mine said this is a "read only" document therefore it cannot be altered or printed (I would have thought we can't alter but we should be able to print, as I can see from the print preview). I have forward it to another computer (the 4th computer for this try) using different priter but to no avail.

Hi Henry.

You said the scan is an A4 size.

In my printing menu, under

Options

Print

there is a checkmark in the box next to -

Allow A4/Letter paper resizing.

Maybe your print menu has the same option and you have to choose this for the proper printing of an A4 size scan.

Take care,

Linda

Hi again.

I thought of something else.

At work ( I just got laid off yesterday after 28 years ), but we would receive art files through email and sometimes it would not print properly.

I would open it in an art program such as Illustrator or a photo imaging program such as Photoshop, resave it, and put it back into the program I was printing from.

Resaving the art would fix whatever problem it had and the art would print fine.

Sometimes sending art files through the internet, especially if they aren't compressed, causes some of the bits that make up the art to get out of whack.

Opening them and resaving them in an art or photo imaging program seems to put the bits back in their proper order.

Take care,

Linda

Thanks Linda. Sorry to have learned that you got laid off just the day before. The economy is bad indeed but don’t be disheartened.
The printing problem I am having is with the PC at my office. I can’t do anything at this moment until I get back to the office on Monday.
Recalling what I did when I received the scanned file (jpg. file, scanned from an A4 size document): I saved it in the folder ‘My Document’/I opened a blank Words file/ clicked ‘Insert’ on the tool bar/ selected ‘Picture’from the menu/ selected ‘From File’/I located the above-mentioned scanned file and clicked ‘Insert’. It was inserted to the blank document page nicely. The procedure sounds similar to what you mentioned in your last post. From the ‘print preview’, it seemed fine. But when I clicked print, I have the error message. I have forwarded the same file to three other PCs. All show the same error message when they clicked Print. I will check on Monday to see if the print option "Allow A4/letter paper resizing" is checked. But my friend said the document was a "read only" document therefore cannot be printed. If this is true, than there is no point we continue tackling the problem.

All the best
Henry

Have you tried highlighting the whole document and copying into a word document or text file and then printing it from there?

You could also do a print screen, pasting into a photo application a screen at a time, then saving it and printing from the photo file. 550K isn't a whole lot.

Let me know if anything works.

Thank you all.
Anyway I have found the way for the printing. All the above methods (whether by way of insert or highlight and paste)do not work. After 'trial and error', I have found that if I right click on the scanned document to get the "picture toolbar"/select "picture control"/uncheck "automatic" and check "black & white"/print. Then I can print. But I can print scanned photographs without having to changed to "black & white" - something I don't understand.
