Can't open or save files in Office

When I try to open a file or save a file in Office XP applications the program stops responding. Other functions work. I can open change and save files by clicking on their folder locations where saved, but can't save new files in applications nor open files from there. I've uninstalled and re-installed the program. made a new normal.dot, and run virus, spyware and norton utilites. Help!

I have the same problem and it just started today. When I try to 'save as', the drop down file location box freezes. Never had this happen before and I use Excel and Word every day.

i have had this too on XP with office 2000 four security updates were sent out over the easter period uninstall these updates from add remove programmes for an imidiate fix i can not find anything on microsoft web site about any future fixes.
If anyone has any other news on this id like to know!
