I have files on my computer that I used to be able to open, but my computer went through changes recently and now with adobe acrobat I can't open files. A not pops up saying it's not a supported file or the file has been damaged.

Adobe Acrobat is for viewing pdf files, not jpg's. You need a graphics program like Paint or Microsoft Office Picture Manager to view jpg's. You can also try Irfanview which is a free image viewer
