I'm unable to open an E-mail some attachments in Outlook 2003. I get the following dialog box: "The form required to view this message cannot be displayed. Contact your administrator".
This started happening for no apparent reason.
It sounds like a security check point and I can't find it.
Thanks in advance
Marv

It could be a security feature, but it also might be the sender is using a customized Outlook form that has some coding behind the scenes that is causing this as well. Generally speaking, anytime a custom Outlook form is used it should be published to at least the Standard library or better yet the Oraganizational library. I'd make some inquiries to the sender and ask if they are using a customized form.
Where's that any key?

Thanks Pierre for responding.
This new problem is from more than one sender. And as I said before I can open some attachments.
I have even considered reinstalling MSOffice in the event I have a corrupt or damaged file.

Is there one particular file type you're unable to open? Have you tried doing a Save As and then opening it from explorer?

Jennifer, thank you for your reply. This is what I have done so far.
When I moved the e-mail to a folder in My Documents, (as you suggested) it changed the file extension to .msg. When I tried to open it, I got another dialog box that said “.msg is not a valid Win 32 application.”
After that failed, I forwarded the e-mail to “Outlook Express” (on my same computer) and this program opened the attachment. But I still get the same error message when I try to open the attachment in “Outlook”. I'm very confused!
I was tempted to reinstall MSOffice but I don’t want to lose all the information in MSOutlook. Do you have any other ideas?
Marv

I meant to save the attachment...not the message. Then open the attachment in Explorer. :)

Good afternoon Jennifer
I did ONLY move the ATTACHMENT to a folder in My Documents (but I wrongly said e-mail)
but it did changed the file extension to .msg. When I tried to open it in "Explorer", I got another dialog box that said “.msg is not a valid Win 32 application.”But as I said before, I was able to open the attachment in “Outlook EXPRESS”.
Sorry about the confusion!

You need to right-click on the attachment name and Save As...or File Save Attachment as. The msg file you're saving is the message, not the attachment. What is the file type of the attachment? Are you running through an Exchange server?
Soylent Green is PEOPLE!!!

I have right clicked on the attachment (several times) and have saved the attachment to a folder.
Each time it saves it as: " Beautiful rock painting by a talented young man--- (1.01 MB).msg" I have opened this as others in "Outlook Express" but I'm unable to do so in "Outlook" (All this attachment turned out to be was pictures.)
I have been unable to find the file type of the attachment. I'm sure it's not a .exe or .com but then again I don't know what it is.
As far as running through an Exchange server. I know nothing of Exchange servers (except what I read after you mentioned it). I haven't made any changes before all this came about. My server by the way is Comcast cable.
Jennifer, I appreciate your patience. If you decide enough is enough I wouldn't blame you in the least.
By the way I will forward this problem e-mail to you and maybe you will see something that I'm over looking to tell you.
Thanks again

Are these emails forwards? If so, the issue you're having makes perfet sense. If someone is using Outlook Express and then forwards an email to you, the email will show as an attachment ...msg You should be able to doubleclick on each nested attachment (message) and open the email. Or, if you aren't interested in reading all these forwards, just delete the email.

Well Jennifer I think I’m on to something but I don’t know what to do about it!!!
I think my problem is with “AOL” ! It appears that I can open any e-mail with an attachment as long it “DOES NOT” come from AOL. To open anything that comes from their server, I have to send it to “Outlook Express” ….. open it…. then click on “Forward” then delete or remove all of the other forwards….. then send it back to “MS Outlook”. Then I’m able to open it.
This all started about a month ago. I don’t have a clue what has changed. I don’t know if AOL has made a change or if something in my “MS Outlook” has changed.
Now what do you suggest?
