I have nevewr had any problems opening attachments be it Word or Excel but all of a sudden I try to open a Word document and it opens with Real player! I deleted RP completely but still I can't open it with anything!! The extension is .docx. Any ideas please. When was the last time you did something for the first time?
Sounds like your file type association may be messed up, look here:
If the attachment is saved, does it still not open by double clicking the file? What Office package are you using? The older MS packages will not be able to open docx (compressed files). There is an XML Viewer available if necessary.

Derek, that is sort of true. The older versions can open docx files if the free Compatibilty Pack is installed.

Thanks to all of you for your quick and very efficient response. I downloaded the Compatibility pack and WALLA!! A special word of thanks to DerbyDad3. Any idea on a .xps extention? I managed to download a xps viewer program but the quality of the endresult is not very good. Almost unreadable. Regards
