Can't log in, safely, to Hotmail?

Specs: Windows XP
When I try to log into hotmail, I get a screen sayig website has no safety certificate? It says it is not recommended to proceed as private info may be accessed. If I ignore this advice I can log in but dare not risk it. Can anyone help?
