Hi,

I got a portion of text sitting on the left side of a new line in MS Word XP, and when I try to move it more to the right by pressing SPACE it doesn't allow me. If I press TAB, it also shifts the line above. I know it has something to do with autoformatting, but I never used this feature and I would like to disable it altogether.
Any suggestions on where I can find and disable it?

Browse down the forum list to "MS Word doesn't mind it's business," or something similar. That post is regarding a different version of Word, but I bet the contols are in the same place.

Best Luck,
Bob

I'm suprised the problem wasn't with the auto-format features, as you thought. That crap should be turned OFF by default, if you ask me.

I would try to re-create the problem on my computer, but I'm still on Office2000...

Best Luck,
Bob

I'm assuming you are using word wrap and left justification, so this behavior is "probably by design."

You need to insert a hard space. hit Ctrl+Shift+Space

Intuitive, isn't it =)

By the way, you'll always need to insert a hard space *unless* you end the preceding line with Return/Enter.
