Can'e open .wpd in MS Word2000

I'm trying to open a .wpd file some gave me in Office 2000, MS Word , but it tells me "The document appears to be corrupt. Conversion may be incomplete" and shows an empty page. How can i open it?

A wpd is a Word Perfect document. Ask the person who gave it to you if they can make a MS Word version of the document.

Or you can put in the office disk, go to add or remove features, and add the conversion filter for wpd. -SN

I tried to install the conversion tool, and it still would not convert. Do i need to get Word Perfect?
