Hi there. I use PowerPoint to create my Work Logo (Word Art) and then save the slide as either one of the following :-
GIF - JPEG - PNG - TIFF - Device Indepedent Bitmap - Windows Metafile - Enhanced Windows Metafile.
My question is, which one is the best quality?
Thanks :o)

- GIF has 256 colors, so limited if you used gradients of photos
- JPEG is okay and compact
- PNG is okay and compact
- TIFF is okay too
- BMP, WMF and EWM ... well more of the same.I prefer JPEG beacuse of the wide acceptance of this format and high quality with low size. Beware you set the compression to 0% or the quality to 100%.

JPEG is a lossy format. GIF is limited to 256 colors. BMP, TIFF, PNG are all non lossy formats. PNG will use a non-lossy compression to make the file size smaller.
So the best quality will be your choice of PNG, BMP, or TIFF.

Wait...
GIF is a lossless compression that use a system palette up to 256 colors. Best suited for graphical images. It can use ALPHA CHANNEL for transparency.
JPEG is a lossy compression using 8x8 matrix with a DCT algorythm. This is best suited for photographic images. You won't notice any loss of data if you use a 90%+ quality ratio. JPEG is faster for compression/decompression than GIF or PNG.
PNG is a lossless compression. This is a open source project to respond to the patent liscence of GIF. The difference is that GIF use LZW algorythm and PNG use LZ77. PNG can use as many colors you want in different bit depth. PNG is the slowest compr/decompr algorithm.
TIFF is not a compression. TIFF is a file format that use JPEG, ZIP or LZW compression. It can have uncompressed data too. Only the TIFF-JPEG is lossy, the others are lossless. TIFF is a meta-file that use TAG to identify caracteristics from the images. It can have tiled structure for multi-resolutions and many more.. This is a specific format for file exchanges standardization between different softwares/OS and is proposed by Mocrosoft n(and his partners) as the best solution for scanners.
My suggestion:
For photos, use JPEG. The best result from JPEG (COMP/QUAL) is 75%. For logos or graphics (histograms, ..) use PNG. Forget TIFF as it is not designed for this purpose.
Have fun...
