Subject: Annoying save prompt in MS WordOS: MCECPU/Ram: 1.8Model/Manufacturer: Gateway |
Comment: Hiya, I am wondering why everytime I view a Word document using MS Office 2002 without chaning anything to it, just looking, that when I go to exit I get a save prompt. I don't get it. I haven't changed anything in the document. I watch tv and have seen people explain something about being able to edit a document and then sending it to someone else to edit and the document can keep track of who did what when... but that was on the newer version of MS Office. So I guess my question is... Is there some option that will prevent this save prompt if I just want to view the document and maybe copy paste from the document?

Reply: (edit)Try saving a blank word document to your desktop. Then open it. Do you still get a save prompt when you close this empty document? If not, there is a chance the documents for which you do get a save prompt for contain dynamically updated content (date, formula, etc) that is automatically updated when ever you open the document. -Ryan Adams http://RyanTAdams.com

Reply: (edit)I don't really understand what you mean by dynamically updated.... The documents that I have are pretty much all text documents, such as resumes and journals with no hyperlinks or stuff like that. OK, So I now realize that when I open a document and click on the text without changing it then on the mouse, if I scroll up or down then close the document, MS Word will prompt me if I want to save. The thing is I haven't changed nothing. Like I mentioned before, if I am doin research online, I will copy paste text into Word to be used in the address bar in Internet Explorer at a later date. Do you know what is happening in Word so that I can change this feature as over the years it has become quite annoying.
