March 20, 2011 at 13:06:43
Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate
My Excel 2007 arbitrarily moves my horizontal view back to column A no matter where I'd like to go on the spreadhseet! I can scroll out indefinitely but as soon as I let go of the scrolling it moves the view back to the first column!!!

Problem solved! I loaded an update to Windows 7 [x64 bit] and it fixed it.

Try a Diagnostic and see if that helps:

Running Microsoft Office Diagnostics from within Excel/Word

Click the Microsoft Office button
Click on the Excel/Word Options button to bring up the Excel Options dialog box (at the bottom of window)
Click on the Resources button in the left hand pane
Click on the Diagnose button in the right hand pane
Click Continue
Click Run Diagnostics

Running Microsoft Office Diagnostics from the Start Menu

Click on the Start button
Click All Programs
Click Microsoft Office folder
Click Microsoft Office Tools
Click Microsoft Office Diagnostics
Click Continue
Click Run Diagnostics

You could try to re-register:

Select Start
Select Run

Type in: excel.exe /regserver

(You may need to give the complete path name to Excel)

This forces Excel to register itself and then quit. It will rewrite all of its registry keys and reassociate itself with Excel files.

See if that helps.

Hi Mike,

Thanks very much for the suggestions. As it turns out I appear to have scrolling problems with more than just Excel !! My favorites drop down menu insists on scrolling back up to the first entry making my lower entries inaccessible. I also noticed that this automatic upscroll occurs
when I try to look at a list of installed software. I guess my issue is something in the operating system itself. Ugh!
