Comment:

I have the 2003 version of the Microsoft Office suite on my PC. It includes Microsoft Office Word 2003.

I also have Acrobat Distiller 6.0, Adobe Acrobat Professional 6.0 and Adobe Reader 7.0. The Adobe software is integrated into the Microsoft Office products via the Office toolbars.

In Word, the Adobe software creates a toolbar of its own. This toolbar has 3 icons on the left and the rest of the toolbar is empty. The 3 icons are Convert to Adobe PDF, Convert to Adobe PDF and Email, and Convert to Adobe PDF and send for review.

I all but never use this toolbar and I'd rather have the space for my Word documents.

I can remove the toolbar for the present session of Word by right-clicking on the toolbar and deselecting it from the pop up menu. But it comes back the next time I start Word.

Ditto if I right-click and use the Customize option on the pop up menu.

Where is the configuration setting to remove this toolbar from Word?

Curiously, the Adobe toolbar is not present in Excel, Access or the other components of Microsoft Office.

Thanks.

Steve

View >> Toolbars and deselect PDFmaker removes the toolbar for that session, but the toolbar is back the next time I start Word.

I was hoping for a way to remove it and keep it removed when I start Word the next time.

This toolbar you speak of was a thorn in my side for a few days as well. I tried probably everything you've tried short of editing the registry.

The ONLY solution I found was to uninstall everything Adobe related and do a Custom Install and choose not to install that feature. I forget off the top of my head the exact feature, but it's something like Office Integration or Editing.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but that probably your best bet.

Based on info from this site

Start > Run > regedit.exe
Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins\PDFMaker.OfficeAddin
Change "LoadBehavior" from a value of 3 to 0

That sounds like a good idea, but . . .

I found the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office key but it does not have a Word entry in it.

My HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office key has entries for 11.0, 9.0, Common, Delivery, MS Project and Powerpoint.

A registry search for PDFMaker.OfficeAddin turned up nothing.

A registry search for OfficeAddin turned up nothing.

A registry search for PDFMaker turned up the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\MS Project\Addins\PDFMaker.MSProject. It has the LoadBehavior entry in the right screen. I don't have the toolbar issue with MS Project.

Wonder where else that key could be for Word?

Steve

You could create the key by running the following command:
REG ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins\PDFMaker.OfficeAddin /v LoadBehavior /t REG_DWORD /d 00000000

Or you could try one of the suggestions at this site

This is sad... A guy at work tries to find it back and you want to remove it.

I found the easiest way to remove it.

Install an older version of Word.
Start this older version.
After this descently close Word and start the newer Word (the one that already was on your computer) and the toolbar should be gone.
Even after you start Word again afterwards.

After this you can remove the old Word again if you don't like it.

That is how it worked here...
(even though it is somewhat more difficult to retrieve it appearently)...
