acrobat reader 5.00 'has stopped working'

Specs: Windows 7
I have a Canon LIDE which I have used successfullyfor years to create pdfs. The machine will scan but then message appears:'Acrobat reader 5.00 has stopped working', and I click so Windows can seek to resolve problem, but it gives up after 4-5 sweeps.

You could uninstall Acrobat Reader from "Control Panel > Programs and Features". then re-install it.

At this point though, I am unsure whether you should install Acrobat 5 from the Canon LIDE CD or use the latest which is Acrobat 11. It is possible (but not certain) that Acrobat updated and this caused the trouble.
