I presently have a Access 2K Table that is a index for photographs. The table/forms/querys/reports all work very well and the container does NOT contain any of the photographs. Currently its size is about 4-5K of records, I expect it to become about 8 - 9 times larger as more negatives are scanned.
Included are fields for Descriptions, Locations, Dates and so on, but also is a [Filename] field, along with a presently blank [Location] field. This was a planned place for the location of the individual photograph file.
The question is in two parts;
1- What would be required to be added to each record so that when your looking at a continuous form record you can see a thumbnail of the photo ?
2- Could a button (or a control) be added to a form to allow for a Photo Editor viewing of the photograph in the record, using the [Location]+[Filename] fields ?
When I started this, I didn't think that that I would be so thick headed that I couldn't get this to work somehow. Does anyone have some code, URL's or advise to help sort our what seems like a rather simple problem . . . .
Cheers

In the Table that the Form is based on, insert a field. The Field Type should be OLE Object. Then, after adding that field to your Form, insert an Object, for example a Microsoft Photo Editor Photo, by right-clicking and selecting. Then, insert the photo. Close and save the table.
That field should then be added to the form. After adding it, Go into Properties on the and set the size of the box that you want displayed.... 1 inch high by 1 inch wide..or whatever you wish Then, click on the All tab and under Size Mode, select Zoom.
That's all you need to do.
You'll have to add each picture to the appropriate record in the table of course..

Jennifer,
Thanks for the reply, and by now I have tried so many ways to do this, am not sure if I have tried this or not. As I have re-read your reply a few times, old grey matter, started perculating here again.
The method you mentioned actually saves a copy of the photo with the table itself. This is not what I wish to do nor is it wise to try this with an Access database. But it did give me another idea on how I might try to do this without inflating the table to much.
An OLE object to an unbound field (with all size configuration settings set for the field). Making the unbound field part of the form. Made the setting like 2" x 2" and set it to zoom. This would be only 'linked' to the photo file location.
I have done a quick test to see if it will work and it seems too just fine. Secondary feature of doing it this was is double clicking on the 2 x 2 image, calls up Photo Editor with the photo to full image size. I liked that feature now.
The next key is to see how large that method will makes a test copy of data base container with say several dozen photos.
The next would be to see if I can do this with an expression or code at the time I enter the record. This is not an earth shattering I need it now type of thing, just an evolution of an index of photos that started with Access 2.0
I have done it also with 'HyperLink' method and frankly that seemed quite cumbersome and unforgiving. Am not giving up on the idea, just looking for the best method of doing it. I expect before I am done to have 7 - 9 thousand records. Presently I have about 1100 records entered with out links to pics and the container is quite stable at 2.5Mb.
As I re-read my earlier post, I really neglected to mention my concern about size inflation of the database part fully, Sorry, but thanks for reply again.
