I designed a database on this computer which had a field in a table with the OLE type set. I then made a form that when you right-clicked on the OLE field you could insert a picture to embed from your harddrive. I took the database to another computer with another version of windows and added 20 records with pictures. I then take the database back home to my computer with XP home and I am not allowed to add pictures to new records. It's acting as if Access does not have proper file permissions or something. Every time I open the window to browse for the picture to embed, I select the JPG file but the import window has "File: Unknown Type" and when I tell it to import, I get this exact error message: "The connection with the OLE server was lost, or the OLE server encountered an error while you were using it.
Restart the OLE server, and then try the operation again."
I've tried new forms, and even new databases, I cannot embed or link to any picture files without a similarly worded error message. I have restarted the computer a few times, I am logged in as administrator and have Access "Running As" administrator as well. What is the OLE Server and what could be the problem? I have done this exact operation before on a database I made a long time ago before I installed the SP-3 for access 2000.

I don't know if this will help, but are you running norton antivirus? if you are then you need to disable script blocking in its options. for some reason Access 2000 and Nav clash and cause a problem that sounds very similar to yours.

No, I do run McAfee products though. I did disable them all and I still had all the errors. I'm not really worried about it though, I have other computers I can use to insert the pictures.
