Access 2000: change character limit

Is there anyway to change the maximum character limit in Access 2000 from 255 to (for example) 10,000 characters? A registry tweak perhaps?

you would have to use a memo field then you would get

65535 characters per field.

Thanks! All this time, I thought 'memo' had a SHORTER limit than plain text. Guess I was wrong. I like easy solutions.
