I did some work on the computer using Microsoft Word. The work was saved on a floppy disk. The next day I tried to access the file and got a message that the disk needed to be formatted. The disk was purchased formatted and I also had about 6 different files saved on the disk. If I format the disk I will lose anything that I previously saved. Please what should I do? Thanks ladyj8

I have had this problem with floppy disks myself lately. Sometimes I can go to a different computer and get the disk to work. Most of the time I can't though. I suggest you try a few different computers (new and old computers) and if you get one to read it get your info off and save it to another floppy or a flash drive or something. I have also tried the format option and it will always say that the disk can't be formatted. I usually toss them in the trash after that.
You may also try running a standard windows scandisk on the disk.
A lot of people feel more secure saving their stuff to a floppy, mostly because it's something physical they can hang onto and carry around. But the truth is that they are far too unreliable to use given the wide range of other options available today (e-mail, ftp, jump drives, hard drives, cd-roms, etc.)
