Hello, I've got a zd1201 zydas wifi usb key (802.11b) on my comp and I use a wag54G linksys dsl/ethernet/wifi router (802.11g) as AP and modem. My problem is my bandwidth between the usb key and the router is capped to 13KByte/s from my comp and 32 KB/s from the router. so it's 2,5% of the theorical maximum. I've test with wep, wpa or nothing; at 1m distance; on another comp; under linux win98 & winxp; using internet (4Mb/s) or accessing shared files from the other comp wired to the router in 100Mb/s : it's the same. so the problem doesn't arise from the comp setings. And I remember using the usb key in AD HOC mode before and the bandwidth wasn't so low. When I fixed the Tx rate in the router, instead of auto, the only rate at which I get a connection is at 1Mb/s although windows tell me I'm connected at 11Mb/s. This would be the logical explanation of my bandwidth, then at 25 % of the maximum which resembles more the habitual result of a wifi connection. But then why can't I connect at 11Mb/s ?

I've received a motorola pcmcia wifi card (wn825g). I could do more test with the router here are the results: *Whatever is my tx rate (48,36,24,18 Mbps) my resulting true bandwidth turns around 8Mbps. *If I force 54 Mbps, the connection isn't stable and so is far less productive than lower rates. *forcing 802.11g instead of mixed mode in my linksys router does nothing.
It seems the router has serious limitations cause I expect to get an 18Mbps effective rate from a 54Mbps announced. Still 8 Mbps is better than 256Kbps.

I've discovered that if I force the tx rate at 11Mbps (like 802.11b but the router is still in mixed mode) with the motorola card the resulting effective bandwidth is the same than with the zydas key. If I put lower rates (1,5.5,9) they act as the superior rate (18,24,36) i.e. my bandwidth is of 8 Mbps or 100% of the chosen rate if it's under 8 Mbps. but 100% of 1Mbps is still 4x times better than the 11 Mbps. I couldn't do the same with the zydas key whatever the forced rate it's always 256Kbts effective.
