Hi!
Ok, basically i live with 3 people sharing a BT 8mb wireless broadband connection using a BT hub. Two of us use D-Link Air DWL-510 cards, but it seems only my connection is playing up. I can normally connect to the Hub ok, but then my internet is very slow or non-existent.

Just to add insult to injury though, it occasionally works fine for a day or two, and then when i think the problem is fixed it goes bad again.

Basically, does anyone have any ideas? Signal strength is normally very good or excellent, but packets from the net dont seem to be able to get through to my pc 95% of the time.

Should I just buy a 10m ethernet cable? Has xp decided it doesnt like my setup? I keep thinking xp firewall might be to blame but cant find the problem. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!
Cheers!

First off, if you haven't already download/install the latest driver. If the problem persists. Replace the ethernet cable, then the network card, in that order. I would not bother buying a 10m ethernet cable (Cat3) they are hard to find and 100m (Cat5) cables are rated/tested for all speeds 100m and lower. Lastly I would expect the operating system.

He is saying he is having problems with the wireless not wired connection and asking if he should go to a wired solution . Make sure you are not trying to use both wireless clinets if the dlink came with one , either use the dlink client or use the XP built in client and turn off the dlink client . If you have any kind of encryption or mac filtering then try turning that off and work from there , if that improves stuff add them back one at a time until things degrade again. If you are using the xp wireless client take a look at this . http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826942
