Hi, I have a back to back 100MBps ethernet connection (or did have) between win2000 pro and win98SE. I've since upgraded the 2000Pro machine to XP Pro. The problem is that the ethernet txfr speeds from win98 to XP are pretty good (normal as far as I can tell) but boring slow XP to win98. Netxray on the 98 machine says I'm only getting 10 to 14 packets /sec which is pathetic. Xray tells me there are no errors occuring.
During testing, firewall and virus scanner were removed (not just disabled) but to no effect
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Thankx in advance
Ed

back to back means how far? from each other? and are they running through any other network devices?

Back to back means a cross over cable and around 2 meters apart (2 meters of cable that is). No other network devices.

Make sure that your cable are within range.I really dont get by back2back.You can also go to your lan cards properties on the advance tab>cxonnection/media type choose 10baseT half duplex mode.

She, the cross-over connection is easily within
the specs of cable length, and high quality cable is being used. I've tried all the properties stuff with respect to speed, full and half duplex and nothing makes any difference. I know cross-over connections can sometimes have problems when both ends are set to auto-negotiate but I've already dealt with this by setting a default. Also, there are no errors on the connection....weird.

Finally, if you want to see the answer here refer to unique message number 27416 in the XP forum. Ed
