Comment:

I am trying to connect though a speedstream 5200. I recently upgraded the firmware to convert the modem to a router.

I have two VC options.
*One is set up to be a regular modem which I use the brodband "dial-up" icon to connect, which works correctly.
*The second I is set up to be a router which will connect for me. When I enable this connection it tells me I am connected and assigns the router an IP address but I can't connect with my machine to any webpages or mail.

Any advice would be much appreciated. As well what other information will you need to help diagnose this problem.

Thanks

What private IP has the router and did the computer get the IP address from the router via DHCP?

If you open a dos box at the client computer, type in IPCONFIG /ALL

The network ip address, standard gateway and name server will be shown.

The ip address must be in the same range as the routers private ip address.
Standard gateway and name server must be the routers private ip address.
