I recently moved and went from wired to wireless connections. I have 2 laptops and 4 desktops. 1 of my desktops is used as a server, basically has a shared drive that is mapped on all the other computers. Before I moved I had the 4 desktops hardwired and the laptops wireless, everything worked fine, never a problem seeing the server or other computers. Now all the desktops (including the server) are wireless also. They all connect to the router fine and access the Internet w/o a problem, but their ability to see each other is random at best, The server seems to be able to see the work group w/o a prob but my other desktops and laptop usually can't see the server. I only have 2 of the desktops set up currently (kids need to clean their room before they get theirs set up) my other desktop that is set up will sometimes see the work group and the server computer, it will pull up the shared drives but if I try to access them it times out with an error. I use the Linksys WRT54GL router with OS firmware (the WRT54G word filter didn't work, I tried 2 of them and they would lock up when that was enabled) I haven't changed any setting on the router. I did run the wireless set up wizard on the 2 desktops. It didn't help them but I think it was at that time the the laptop stopped seeing the server (not sure though). This is a real pain in the neck, any ideas?

Thank you,
Brad

I'm a fan of static IP addresses. That way I can click start, run, type in the IP of the file server \\192.168.1.2 or whatever it is and press enter. All the shares will appear and you can create shortcuts on the desktops of the other machines.

Thank you, I had thought of that but hadn't tried it, it worked great. I set static IPs for the desktops and all is good.

Thanks again,
Brad
