hello,
i have a four computers which i have networked at home through a ethernet hub. they all have internet access via a router. This all works fine.

I just got two more pc's which i do not want to hook up to my existing but just want to network then together, i used an ethernet cable to between them with no hub or internet connection. i ran network manager on both computers, but when i go into my network places i have no connection i cannot see my computers on either. my group name is the same, so now im confused.
any ideas pleae?

Cheers,

Did you use a patch cable, or a cross-over cable?

i believe it was a patch cable that i plugged in directly into the mobo of both computers. is this the wrong type of cable?

Yeah, when no hub/switch/router is used, you need a cross-over cable.

Most newer systems don't require a special crossover cable. You may. See help and support pages for network diagnostics too along with putting the network icons on task bars (they tell you if you are not connected.)

I'd make sure you had set static IP's in both or enabled APIPA to default in case of no dhcp before I bought a cable just to be sure it isn't for lack of an IP address.

As with all shares you may need to enable both in the OS and firewalls.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.
