I am having problems establishing a telnet session to my linux box from my XP machine through the dos command window. I can ping and ftp to the Linux box. I can telnet to UNIX work machines from my XP once I set up a VPN over my cable modem. I can access the internet from both machines. When I try to telnet I get back:
telnetd: getnameinfo.
Connection to host lost.
I figure I have a linux network config problem but am not knowledgeable enough to know where to look. Any ideas?

Hi!
Sounds to me that a telnet connection request is actually making it to your linux box, but it is deciding to reset it and deny you telnet access.
If my assumption is correct, then it may just be a case of the linux box not being happy to accept incoming telnet connections from hosts it doesn't know.
Try entering the name and IP address of your XP box in your /etc/hosts on your linux box.... the syntax is :-
