I have a small 2-computer network using a cat5 crossover cable between my XP Pro desktop and my Windows ME laptop. The cord works perfect and I know it is not the problem. Internet Connection Sharing works fine, and network browsing is relatively normal speed, if sometimes a little slow. I can take files from the xp desktop and put them onto the laptop, but I can't put anything onto the xp from the laptop. It doesn't work both ways.
Here is an example of my problem.
I want to take the song "Roll Out" from the Windows ME laptop and put it onto the XP Pro. So I use my old copy and paste method of file sharing. I sit down at the laptop, right click the song, and copy it. Then I close out of the folder and go to My Network Places on the desktop. I access the shared folder, My Music(as far as I know that folder gives full access to just about everything I can think of), and then right click and paste the song. After about 2 minutes of waiting and a long freeze on the laptop, it finally just causes an error message. It says "Cannot create or replace Roll Out: The network is busy."If anyone knows any better methods to transfer the file that might make it work, I would really like to know it. I have checked and checked again on the security of the shared folders to make sure that they won't deny anything like the "Change" option. I am 100% sure it's a problem with the XP pro, because I networked the same laptop to my friends XP pro, and everything worked with perfect efficiency and speed.
The protocols on both computers are TCP/IP, just as I always use. They both have the file and print sharing, too. This problem I am having bothers way too many people and should be resolved. If it's not just like my problem, it's really close. hehe
Someone please help me! :(

in the folders options of the xp computer all the way at the bottom you should make sure that you are NOT using simple file sharing. (you must be using NTFS partition also)
Go into the security settings of the folder you want to drag the song into and give EVERYONE "full control" and also on the sharing section give EVERYONE "full controll"
see if that helps...
Or you can just grab the song FROM the Xp computer.

I will try the full control option some more, but I have already messed with it a little bit and it didn't seem to help. When I try to get on the XP desktop and then try to drag a file from the laptop, it will show the little box as if it is copying the file, but it really doesn't have any progress on the copying, and after a while it just gives me some error message.
Btw, the song isn't really important and is just an example.
