I have XP pro on my desktop machine and home on my laptop. They are connected through a linksys router which is connected to my dsl modem. I can access my files on my desktop from my laptop fine and my laptop shows the folders that i have shared on it. When i try to view my shared files on my laptop from my desktop it tells me i dont have the right permissions. all firewalls have been turned off. I also notice(on my laptop) if i right click on it under the workgroup computers it says the version is Windows Professional. File sharing worked fine for a while and then just seemed to stop.
Thanks

1. Are you using Simple File Sharing on both your desktop and your laptop?
2. Have you recently upgraded to Windows XP SP2?
3. Are both computers on the same workgroup?Doubt its a tcp/ip related issue.

ps. i know windows xp home only supports simple file sharing...correction...
1. is your windows xp pro using simple file sharing?www.monkonline.tk

yes xp pro is using simple file sharing. and the tcp/ip filtering is already like you said to set it at.

I am having a similary problem. I have WinXP home on both computers. Disabled MS OneCare Firewall and Anti-virus on both.
I can sometimes see both computer from each computer. And sometimes I can access Computer B from Computer A. But I have never been able to access Computer A from Computer B.
I have tried the nsh commands from Microsofts support website but nothing has helped. I am beginning to think it may be my router. But I did not have problems until I just got Computer B.
