There is this annoying problem and I can't find the answer..
I live in a house with 11 students. We are all connected to eachother via 1 base computer and a 10/100 mb/s network cable.
When connecting to our shared folders the connecting speed is high, no matter what size the folder. But when people want to connect to my computer it takes ages for them to load. Once connected, the transfer speed is at it's top.
So, they can see my computer in the network places, can double-click and see my shared folders, but when opening a folder you'll have to wait about 10 minutes before reaching it.
I have no firewalls, no anti-virus systems loaded, no limits/restrictions... Others in the house also have XP installed, but don't have the same problem. I have no problem connecting to the other computers, but why does it take ages to reach mine..??

So they can browse to your machine quickly, but when they try to open any shared folder, it takes forever? If so, what happenes if they try to access the default shares? In other words, have them open the run window, and type \\your_computer_name\c$
Does that take forever to open, or is it quick? If that is quick, try unsharing the folder, and re-do the share. Also, what happens when you try to access the share, is it quick, or does it take long as well. For testing, don't use network neighborhood, just use the run window.

All shared folders, even the defaults, take ages for them to open. Through the run window doesn't make any difference. I can access the share real quick, no problems at all.

You could try installing ethereal, and see what kind of traffic is coming over the network when they browse to your share.
