XP Network / No Computers

Specs: Windows XP Pro
For quite some time, I have had a home network through a linksys router that has allowed a laptop to share a printer and files through the desktop. It stopped working a week ago and I am at a loss to figure out why.

Both are running XP Pro. The Desktop recognizes that there is a network and workgroup, but does not see any computer (including the desktop) as part of it.

I have tried reinstalling the network, renaming the workgroup, turning off the firewall/virus/spyware protection, renaming the computer, and various combinations of the above. I have tried system restore and restoring the registry. It appears that all the clients on the adapter are working.

The desktop can ping the laptop and access the internet The laptop will recognize the pc eee (on linux) as well as itself.. But the desktop is invisible even on the desktop.

Any help would be most appreciated.

So you go to my network places/view workgroup computers, on the desktop and no workgroup pcs appear in there, it can sometimes take up to a min for them to appear?

Try and access the laptop directly through explorer, so open explorer and type in \\name of laptop

or use the laptop LAN ip, like

The problem was that no workgroup did not show that pcs (including the desktop that I was running it from) were there. But right after posting this I tried yet another google search that led to a couple of netsh commands to reset things - and it worked!

netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ip reset reset.log

Thanks for looking at my post!
