OS: Xp Home
CPU/Ram: Intel4 3.04Ghz 512ddr RAM
Comment:

I have an 2 XP home machines (Host has Sp2-has Realtek NIC and Client has Sp1-also has an on-board LAN card) I have been trying to set-up ICS for a long time, basically set up a successful network: I have done the following but yet no internet on the client maybe Operating system related?

1.Set network wizard on both PCS
2.Set both computers in the same workgroup (WORKGROUP)
3.Reinstalled on-board LAN card and tried adding a PCI NIC-No luck
4.Assigned Static IP's Host:192.168.1.1 Subnet:255.255.255.0
Client:192.168.1.2 Subnet:255.255.255.0
5.Set Dynamic IP's Host:192.168.0.1 Subnet:255.255.255.0 and Client: Obtain IP automatically,
however this doesn't work as I can no longer access files or folders from Network Places-(Please help with this)
6.Disable all firewalls
7.Followed many ICS guides, but have not helped

Previously I have networked the host to a friend of mine and it worked
so there is something something wrong with the Client PC, maybe a service needs to
be installed, or a setting needs to be changed. Here are the specs:Driver of GA-Motherboard:SINXP1394(GA-8SQ800 Ultra2, Western Digital 80gb HD, Intel4 3.04Ghz, 512ddr RAM. Another thing is whenn i type "Ipconfig/all" in command prompt
in host, it says that "Ip routing" is enabled and "Wins Proxy" Disabled however if I type this command into the Client
I get that "Ip routing" is disabled and "Wins Proxy is enabled. Do I need netbios enable or anything? Please help I have tried everthing
and it so fcuking stressful there must be wrong with the Client but Im not clueless as to what? I've also tried using the Dxdiag network tool
to test Direct play etc.

TIA
Pumpkinhead

Try this. Set your host PC up and enable ICS on it. By default the LAN NIC on it will get the following TCP/IP configuration:

IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

On your client PC statically assign the following information:

IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Address: Here you want to put in the DNS addresses of your ISP. To get them, open a command prompt on your host PC and type the following commad:
ipconfig /all
This will show you the DNS server addresses of your ISP and you will want to enter those in the appropriate place on the client.

Once you have the appropriate information entered on the client, your internet should work as well as the LAN.
In a small home environment I've always statically assigned TCP/IP information on the clients as I find it works better. The DNS address information is VERY important as it's what allows you to browse the web by resolving the web site names to their IP addresses.

Hi.
I also got this type of problem in my network. so i can tell you that you did every thing ok. Just change you network adapter speed at 10MB Full or 100MB full on both pc's. if this doesn't work then check your network cable. if you are trying to make network direct pc 2 pc then you need a cross code cable or if you are networking through hub you need same code on both ends.

Connect the Host PC to the internet and run your ICS wizard there first. If it works you should be able to log on to your ISP.

Once you have the host working connect the host snd client. you're connecting directly NIC to NIC between PCs you'll need a crossover cable.

Run the networking wizard on the client and either disable the firewall or set it to "Connect to the Internet through a router or host PC connection".

Your TCP/IP installation may be corrupted. If so you'll want to reinstall TCP/IP. Unfortunately XP considers this a "critical component" and won't allow you to directly. Fortunately there's a workaround. Read here:

for instructions.
