CONFIGURATION:
Computer #1 = WinXP Pro Desktop
Computer #2 = WinXP Home Laptop
Computer #3 = Win98se Laptop,
All connected via Cat5 to Linksys BEFW11S4 router.
Router's wireless feature disabled, DHCP enabled, no broadband connection to router - this will come later.TEST: A test was conducted using this router, no broadband, and two OTHER XP Pro computers (1 laptop, 1 desktop) and the two computers came up and shared files flawlessly. So, the router has been checked out.
PROBLEM:
No file sharing between #1 and #2, and only 1 way file sharing with #3 able to see #2.
#1, #2 & #3 can all ping the router (192.168.1.1), and even access the router's admin/setup pages.
#1 & #2 can ping through the router to #3, but #3 can NOT ping through the router to #1 or #2.What am I missing? I've never seen a situation where I could ping only one way between a pair of connected computers. I've run the network setup wizard on the two XP machines, and entered the same parameters that have been used in other applications, but still nothing changes. All suggestions welcome.

1st suggestion, start all over. ;-)
Unplug all devices, delete all entries in the network setup, restart all your computers twice. Then, build your network again, but leave the computers off. Then start your 'main'-computer and log in as an adminstrator. Try to login to the other pc's with the same username later. Run the wizard, or perhaps by now you are more comfortable with setting up the configuration yourself. First get the TCP/IP-stuff running. Then start the other machines aswell.
Do not try to share files and so on if the TCP/IP is not working flawless.

Thanks for the response. Since these are not my computers, I'm awaiting their owner's desire to implement the fix. Unfortunately, someone else convinced him to add the XP equivalent of NetBEUI, and now his file sharing is working. Of course, it is doubtful that his Broadband sharing will work but since Broadband hasn't been installed yet, he is temporarily pacified. Thanks again.
