Hello everyone, hope you are all well.
I recently set up a wireless connection for mine and my mum's computer. My computer works fine with the wireless, but my mum's computer on startup will automatically connect to the incorrect wireless connection. It connects to an unprotected wireless connection (Belkin something) without the need of a password. This is a slow network so I get my mum to change to the Thomson network I set up, which works fine once she does.
The problem is, on her XP system I have set it up so that the checkbox is ticked for 'Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings' - and my Thomson connection is at the top of the list and set to Automatic.
Nevertheless, whenever the computer restarts, it connects to the Belkin connection. I also notice that checkbox is no longer ticked.
How can I configure it so that the checkbox is always ticked even after a reboot?
Thanks guys.

Andrew C,
This may not be a solution but rather it may be a starting point…If it were me I would boot up your mom’s PC, it should connect to the unwanted wifi network, go into the “View Available Wireless Networks” through your wireless adapter properties or by right-clicking on the wireless network connection icon in your start menu’s task bar.
Once you are in the location where wireless networks are detected, highlight the unwanted wireless connection by left-clicking it and select “Disconnect” in the lower right-hand corner.
Upon doing so you should receive a message that states:
“Are you sure you wish to disconnect from the network **unwanted network**?”
“Once you have disconnected, Windows will not re-connect to this network automatically….”Give that a shot, maybe you have already but by doing that and ensuring that the new WIFI connection is higher than the unwanted WIFI in the “preferred network” list you should be forcing XP to disregard the unwanted WIFI connection.
If that still fails, you can enter the “preferred network” area and highlight the unwanted WIFI connection, select “properties”, in the properties of the unwanted WIFI and select the “Connection” tab, here you should see an “Automatic connection” area, Uncheck the box to “Connect when this network is in range”.
Good luck,
